The next meeting is next Saturday 3rd January, the New Year Walk. The leaders are Louise Hill and Jim Burnett.

Starting from Martin Lane off Bawtry Road SK650934 at 10.30am.  The walk is from Martin Lane through Bawtry Cemetery to Gally Hills Public Open Space and Kings Wood.  The option is then to go over the railway line and return to Bawtry on the eastern side  of the railway or return via Bawtry Road .

Jim says there is enough space in the environs of Martin Lane to accommodate cars.

We should meet on the corner of Martin Lane and Bawtry /Doncaster Road.

The intention is to record any plants that are in flower.

Message from Louise:

The area has drought-prone sandy soils where spring annuals dominate the floral interest.  This year there were no spring rains so the annuals germinated in Autumn – enhancing the possibility of quite a few species still being in flower.  Please note that many species are small and low growing so a waterproof kneeling mat and a magnifying glass are advised!

After the walk some members will be going to the Ship Inn on Gainsborough Road for lunch. Please let me know if you would like to go for lunch so we can book a table if necessary. You are welcome to just come to lunch if you don’t fancy the walk. Lunch should be at around 12.30.

Regards

Margaret Prior
