Meet : 1.30pm at St Nicholas Church, Bawtry SK653 930 Post Code DN10 6JD
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Church_of_St_Nicholas,_Bawtry#/map/0
Leaders : Jim Burnett & Colin Howes.
Parking : No appropriate car parks are available, so find street parking wherever you can.
Background : This is part of our ongoing scheme to locate Harvest Mouse populations on all of the River wetlands in the Doncaster region.
Jim has discovered a very Reedy wet path commencing under the Railway viaduct SK654 930 (DN10 6HB) at the end of an un-named track off Wharfe Street/Church Street. The path winds through wet overgrown habitat, finally emerging in a cattle field and the banks of the Idle. Cattle permitting, we can proceed along the river bank to a recently excavated river-side lake at SK656 932. Distance from St Nicholas Church 585m (1,170m there and back).
Conditions : The site is flat but if there has been rain it can be wet and slippery. In persistently wet weather the Idle is apt to overflow, in which case wellies would be appropriate.
Note : It may be worth coming just to get familiar with the site which is Botanically and Entomologically very rich and would be worth visiting in the summer months.
