Doncaster Microscopical Society
The first Meeting of the session was held on Wednesday evening last at the room in High Street, the Rev. W, Smith, M.A. in the chair.
Two gentlemen were elected members of the society, and the names of eight others having been proposed and seconded were referred to be balloted for the next business meeting.
A most interesting paper on mounting microscope objects was read by Mr. Stiles, the hon. Secretary, who exhibited and described minutely every necessary apparatus, media, etc.
Numerous experiments were performed, showing the various ways in which different objects are prepared and mounted. Particular attention was given to wood sections, which Mr. Stiles cut to the 300th of an inch in thickness by means of apparatus of his own construction.
Owing to the length of the paper, and the interest taken in the subject, it was decided to continue it at the next conversational meeting.
