Doncaster Microscopical and General Scientific Society
The 4th Annual Meeting of this society was held (by kind permission of the Rev. G. Smith) in the Grammar School on Wednesday evening week, the Rev, Canon Brock, president, in the chair.
From this it appeared that the society is in a flourishing condition, the number of members having increased during the year from 59 to 80. Owing to the heavy expense incurred in connection with the conversazione and the loss on the Gilchrist lectures, the cash balance was smaller than at the close of the preceding year.
It was announced, as part of the programme of the society, that two public scientific lectures would be given in the Guild Hall during the coming winter, one by Professor Ball, the Astronomer Royal for Ireland, the other by Mr. Allen, of Sheffield.
It was resolved that youths under 16 be admitted as associates upon payment of 2s. 6d.
The following gentlemen form the committee for the ensuing year :-
The Rev. Canon Brock, president
The Revs. W. R. Weston, G. Smith, A. H. Faber, and Dr. J. M. Wilson, Vice-presidents,
Mr. M. H. Stiles, honorary secretary and treasurer.
And Messrs. B. S. Brundell, W. Cockill, J. Cowley, T. H. Easterfield, J. M. Kirk, J. W. Smith, G. Tindall, and George Winter [Committee]
