Doncaster Microscopical and General Scientific Society

A meeting of the above society was held in the Grammar School on Wednesday evening last, Rev. Canon Brock (president) in the chair.

Thirty-five members and friends were present

The following twenty ladies and gentlemen were elected members of the society.

Five ladies and gentlemen were nominated for election at the next meeting.

Mr. John Ballinger then read a most interesting and instructive paper on the “History of our Coal Fields” which was abundantly illustrated by microscopes and by the oxy-hydrogen lantern, the latter being under the management of Mr. Cowley. The paper was followed by a good discussion, after which a vote of thanks to Mr. Ballinger and Mr. Cowley was proposed by the chairman and carried unanimously.
