ATTENTION – Check your Lawn
Stuart Foster has asked the Nats to look out for local occurrences of a limpet-like scale insect which attacks lawns at this time of year.
Stuart has added the following description to aid your search.
The scales actually develop and feed below the turf surface and can only realistically be found when they come up to breed; dispersal is facilitated by wind blown egg silk and presumably silk caught on bird legs. In the wild the scale has been found in grass tussocks. Either way this would involve intense groveling sessions digging up turf /tussocks unless you are fortunate enough to come across a mass emergence (unlucky if it happens in your favourite lawn).
Please send details of any findings to Colin Howes or direct to Stuart Foster at sanda20211@outlook.com
