Doncaster Microscopical Society

The concluding meeting of this society was held in the Grammar School on Monday evening, under the presidency of the Rev. Canon Brock.

There was a large attendance, and the meeting proved a great success. It had been convened for the exhibition of objects of interest by the various members.

Amongst the principle exhibitors was Mr. Stiles, the secretary, who showed a harmonograph of his own contraption, and also a micro-photography in operation.

H. Stott exhibited a series of electrical apparatuses and a collection of plants. He also gave an illustrated address on “Microscopical Life under the Lantern.”

Mr. Ballinger displayed all the science and art books from the Free Library, which attracted much attention.

Mr. J. M. Kirk attended with a number of electrical batteries, and showed the electric light, also a series of uncommon living objects under the microscope, illustrating marine life in miniature.

Amongst other gentlemen who added to the interest of the proceedings by their exhibitions were the Rev. Canon Brock, Mr. T. H. Easterfield, Mr. W. T. Jackson, Mr. G. Winter, Mr. Comer, and Mr. Tindall.

Parties were arranged to meet the Yorkshire Naturalists Union at Doncaster on the 8th of May next, and to accompany them on an excursion to the Roche Abbey ruins.
